Wolves are “keystone species.” Rather than vote to kill even more wolves, it would be wise, rational and ethical to address human behaviour.

It’s wonderful news that an aerial wolf slaughter is not being considered despite the wish of special interest groups. Now we can start work in the ethical direction, and abolish other methods or “tools” (as some would prefer to call it) used to destroy wolves. Because whatever methods are used to destroy wolves, it is never humane to kill them before their natural lifespan runs out. A vote for a wolf kill is a vote for scapegoating, rather than responsible action.

Wolves are not the problem; they are the victims of the human animal.

And for those of you who have not seen Wyatt’s cartoon in a recent edition of the Yukon News, please have a look. The provocative cartoon depicts a moose prepared for hunting season Ð with a gun.

What would you think of wildlife if this were possible?
