I would like to say thank you to the Whitehorse police detachment for their prompt response in regards to the phone call I made on Saturday evening (October 9). My son was crossing the street in our Hillcrest neighborhood when a young man started to talk to him and asked my son to go with him.
My eight-year-old son promptly ran into our home, locked the door and told me what happened. I immediately went to the front, put on my boots and opened the door. There, on our front step was the young man who approached my son. He asked to use our phone to call a cab. I said no and told him to walk to a nearby store and use a payphone.
The man went away. And I called the RCMP to report the situation. Within the hour, they had located the man, called me back to tell me so, and we all went to sleep feeling that much safer. Thank you very much for responding with such seriousness and keeping our neighborhood safe.
