Open letter to Todd Hardy:

It is with sorrow that I learned of your recent passing.

The sorrow is for the notion that you and I will not meet again in this world.

And it sparked contemplation of the adventure you are now beginning.

I look back with fondness and a sense of honour to have been your “brother in arms” as you fought the good fight for social justice, cultural preservation and environmental protection.

Both you and your wife Louise have been an inspiration to me, and the Yukon is undoubtedly a better place for your efforts and your kindness.

I know that right to the end you maintained fine form, continuing your service to the Yukon and, most importantly, to those who needed your help the most.

Thank you, Todd, for all you have done to bring positive change to this world.

I wish you the best of luck on your future journey. It is one which we all shall embark upon some day, and I can only hope I will pass on to that mysterious road with the same dignity you have shown.

Until we meet again,

Matthew Lien
