I would like to commend Minister Patrick Rouble and the Yukon government for having the courage to reject the proposed land-use plan put forth in December for the 68,000 square-kilometre Peel Watershed.
It did so in full knowledge that it would be an unpopular decision.
It’s refreshing to see a government follow what it feels is the correct course of action, rather than one that would merely be deemed popular at the time.
The recent decision was simply the right thing to do.
My best wishes are extended to all of the parties involved in the Peel Watershed land use planning process as they proceed with this difficult task.
I also look forward to the eventual release of a truly fair and balanced plan that provides benefits for all Yukoners, aboriginal and non-aboriginal alike, rather than a plan that would benefit a few select sectors at the expense of the rest of the populace.
Once again, thanks to the Yukon government for its courage and responsible action.
