I was grateful that, in the interests of balanced reporting, the Yukon News gave two correspondents the opportunity to justify the killing by the Israeli armed forces of 485 Palestinian children in Gaza (Blame Hamas, not Israel, for Dead Gazans, Aug. 15).
Something – measured and careful – had to be done to avenge the indiscriminate slaughter of two Israeli civilians by Hamas rocket fire.
We have been asked repeatedly by the governments of Israel and Canada to imagine what our response would be should similar attacks be made on our country.
A more relevant question might be to imagine what our response might be if foreign armies over the last 60 years had systematically confiscated our land and property and had enclosed a majority of our population behind walls and fences at various locations somewhere in the inhospitable hinterland of Canada.
Would we not be digging tunnel and firing home-made rockets?
