Open letter to Yukon Premier Darrell Pasloski:

In a recent press release, you took the opportunity, while addressing the terrible tragedy in Porter Creek, to make a statement with respect to the upcoming changes to the Landlord and Tenant Act and suggested that the investigation into this tragedy may figure into the revisions of the act.

The Yukon Residential Landlord Association is disappointed that such a statement could be made in a manner that suggests legislating a degree of protection for only tenants and their families and not legislating this same protection for all residents of the Yukon.

It is the position of the Yukon Residential Landlord Association board, and is our written recommendation to all of our members, that all properties, both rental and owner-occupied, have a working smoke and CO alarm.

Furthermore, it is our recommendation that these devices be tested for proper operation as part of the move-in inspection with all residential tenancies.
