Open letter to the Peel River Planning Commission,

The Peel River Watershed must be protected from development.

Resource development is not compatible with protecting wilderness. By its very definition, wilderness ceases to exist once it has been intruded upon with roads, mines, etc.

Having said this, I support mining, I have worked in mines, I even have several years of university education towards a degree in geology. However, I also am able to appreciate the ever-increasing need for protection of wilderness as a valuable resource in and of itself, as valuable, if not more so, than an ore deposit. One can see the fleeting nature of mines with the announced closure of the Cantung mine.

It would be a great loss to Canada and the world to sacrifice the wilderness values of an area such as the Peel River Watershed to such an unstable enterprise as mining/exploration.
