Open letter to the city of Whitehorse:

The transit budget has been cut by 0,000 by eliminating Friday evening service and the No. 7 Downtown Loop bus route!

You increased bus fares last year, and now you are decreasing services.

What evening is the busiest of the week?

I do not understand how something so important to our community, let alone our environment, is continuing to be downsized.

If you offered more timely continuous routes days and evenings, we wouldn’t have such an influx of vehicles on the road, and in doing so your pot of gold, “which you claim you have little of” would grow. Clearly, you are not thinking of the community as a whole in making these decisions.

Don’t employers have enough problems trying to hire and retain employees without the city of Whitehorse hindering their efforts?

You are decreasing a service necessary for younger employees without a driver’s licence. I’m sure the taxi businesses in town are flourishing while our pocket books are emptying faster then we can fill them.

You make it pretty tough for individuals trying to make it in the Yukon, land of the midnight sun. Why don’t bus drivers sell tickets or give change?

A person has to find a store that is open and sells bus tickets before heading for a bus stop.

Please do not cut this valuable service to the residents of Whitehorse—increase it.
