I am appalled to read that Whitehorse has spent $25,000 in legal costs to deal with the issue of a recalcitrant dog.

I think the city could do well to reconsider its priorities.

God knows how many more thousands may be spent before this doggoned issue is settled.

This money could well have been used to provide more valuable and important services, such as handicapped transportation and support to seniors and the disadvantaged residents of our city.

Come next election, I for one will not support a mayor and council whose priorities are so out of whack they put more value on the continued existence of a potentially dangerous animal than on the real needs of people.

I, too, care about animals. But this case is absurd in the least. It has taken on a life of its own, and to what end?

There are hundreds of animals that are euthanized each year that go with little notice.

The animal in question has a bad history and potentially dangerous future.

So minimize the risk.

Put the animal down and be done with it.

Then get on with doing things than have real value.
