August 30, 1946 - August 3, 2023
Remembering ~
Dietmar Tramm slipped away unexpectedly into the night, passing away peacefully in his home on August 3, 2023. Born in Lubeck, Germany, Dietmar was the treasured only child to his parents Editha and Karl Tramm.
Dietmar's early years were forged by a difficult post WW2 period in Germany. This most likely contributed to his rebellious nature. His father once had to retrieve his runaway son who was found selling his paintings on the streets of Paris.
Dietmar was deeply intellectual, witty, curious, and meticulous. It's not surprising he captured the attention of his equally smart and witty wife, Lulu Tizya, who passed away January 19, 2017. For 17 years they travelled the world and enjoyed life to the fullest before going their separate ways. Together they had three children: Erika, Dana, and Paige. Dietmar was also grandfather to four grandchildren: Eleanor, Ni'inlii, Geneva, and Bodhi.
Dietmar dedicated his career to supporting Indigenous Self Government and Land Claim efforts throughout the Yukon. He was proud to have helped conceptualize and pen various chapters of the Umbrella Final Agreement. When the Land Use Planning chapter was put to the test at Canada's highest court, Dietmar's passions were reignited. The Supreme Court sided with First Nations 2017 and Dietmar's original intentions stood in their truth. Dietmar had a deep affinity for rivers and natural landscapes, which meant his heart stood for the protection of the Peel Watershed and all the natural world.
As we celebrate one year since his passing, we ask you to please take a moment to remember him. Dietmar lived from the majesty of the world's mysteries, inspiring those few who recognized him as one of the world's best kept secrets. He would often quote John Le Carre, "I expect nothing from my death, but my extinction and my gods are landscapes." Thank you, Dad, for everything.
