Yukon’s only podium finishes so far at the Western Canada Summer Games in Strathcona, Alberta, have come from powerhouse swimmers Bronwyn Pasloski and Alexandra Gabor.

This weekend Pasloski earned silver in the 100- and 200-metre breaststroke, and bronze in the 200- and 400-metre individual medley.

Gabor took bronze in the 200- and 800-metre freestyle.

In men’s singles badminton, Richard Fulop (three wins — one loss) and Stephan Burdess (two wins – one loss) are doing well.

Both the Yukon boys and girls soccer teams were sitting with a win and two losses on Tuesday.

After losing to BC and Alberta on the weekend, the boys’ squad beat NWT 3-1 on Monday with goals from Stephen Dynes, Tyler Pumphrey and Harrison Ewing.

The girls’ team dropped their first two games against Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and also beat NWT, 2-1, on goals from Ateca Mills and Madison Pearson.

Yukon basketball squads had a tough tournament, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams losing four games straight against the western provinces.

The Western Canada Summer Games continue this week, with Yukon athletes competing in athletics, cycling and volleyball.
