This year, the Yukon News has been nominated for six Ma Murray Community Newspaper Awards.

Genesee Keevil is up for the British Columbia Automobile Association Business Writing Award for her piece on the Yukon’s new abattoir.

And Keevil and Richard Mostyn have been recognized for editorials they wrote about the Yukon Party during and after the territorial election. They share a nomination for the Alan & Adelaide Black Editorial Award.

The paper’s talented photographers have also been recognized.

Mike Thomas has been nominated in the black-and-white feature photography category for a kayak photo dubbed Water Burst.

And Ian Stewart’s wonderful boxing match photo Judges Decision has been nominated for the Hub International Sports Photo Award.

And our art department has been nominated for its skilled advertising work.

Marcella Nowatzki is up for the Canadian Bankers Association Ad Design Award, Black & White for her Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Queens ad.

As well, Nowatzki’s Toyota FJ Cruiser Promo has been nominated for the Canadian Bankers Association Ad Design Award, Spot Colour.

The awards will be handed out on April 14 at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel.
