Yukon back in court over Whistle Bend

This week, Norcope Enterprises launched a second lawsuit against the Yukon government relating to the Whistle Bend development.

This week, Norcope Enterprises launched a second lawsuit against the Yukon government relating to the Whistle Bend development.

Liberal leader Sandy Silver asked the government Tuesday to make public the details of their earlier settlement with the contractor.

The company parked heavy trucks outside the legislature building in June of 2011 in protest of a $2-million contract they argued should have been awarded to them. The dispute was settled out of court.

The government insisted that it cannot make the details of the settlement public as a condition of the agreement.

Now, a separate but related claim has been filed by Norcope against the government.

“After months of negotiation, the contractor has been left with no other option but to try to resolve this dispute with this government,” said Silver.

“Unfortunately, it is the taxpayers who will pay at the end for the government’s inability to get along with contractors.”
