The Yukon Quest has a new executive director.

On April 1, Quest manager Wendy Morrison will take over the struggling organization from Stephen Reynolds.

Reynolds was executive director for six years, and oversaw seven races.

“The first six months, the primary focus will be on fundraising and sponsorship,” said Morrison on Friday morning.

This year, the race purse was short $50,000.

Morrison, who worked as executive director for AIDS Bow Valley in Banff, and as administrative director for CoDevelopment Canada, will be bringing some fresh ideas to the organization, she said.

“My experience is different,” said Morrison.

“There will be a lot of planning and thinking about where we’ll be heading in the next couple of years.”

Morrison “loves the race and the people.”

“I’m excited about the new position,” she said.

Reynolds will remain on staff until the end of April. (Genesee Keevil)
