A British Columbia man has been charged with first-degree murder and arson in connection to the August 2010 death of a Whitehorse man.

Alexander Dennis was arrested on Thursday in Agassiz, B.C. He is 21.

Dennis appeared in a British Columbia court. Arrangements are being made for him to appear in court in Whitehorse at a later date.

Gordon Tubman’s body was found inside a burned trailer on a quarry site on Copper Haul Road on Aug. 15, 2010. He had been living on the site as a caretaker for Norcope Enterprises Ltd. He was 41.

The Yukon RCMP major crime unit and police dog services, Yukon RCMP forensic identification services, the Whitehorse RCMP, the Whitehorse fire department and the Yukon coroner’s service all investigated the death. They determined foul play was involved.

A lengthy investigation led to Dennis’s arrest last week.

Details about what specifically led to the arrest are not being released yet, said Cpl. Calista Macleod with the Yukon RCMP. But police are always open to information from the public about any investigation.

“In any situation, the police appreciate people providing information,” she said. “No information is too old.”
