At the start of Monday’s council meeting, Mayor Dan Curtis took the time to congratulate Whitehorse’s tennis team that won against Juneau in the Capital Cup Challenge.

“You’re gonna have to forgive me, I’m gonna need to put this one while I make this announcement,” said Curtis, as he leaned over his desk to grab a bright orange Whitehorse cap.

Curtis bet with Juneau Mayor Merrill Sanford that Whitehorse would win. The loser has to wear the opposing team’s colour at a council meeting.

“While I was in his living room with his wife, eating some cookies, I was ribbing him about how much we were going to take him down,” Curtis told council.

“Thank you Mayor Sanford, and I’m sure we’ll kick your butt again next year.”
