Mount Sima’s season pass holders can hit the slopes.

They’ll just have to travel a little farther.

On Friday, the board of directors for the Great Northern Ski Society announced Eagle Crest Ski Area in Juneau, Alaska, is offering Sima pass holders free skiing this season.

As well, Ski Smithers in Smithers, BC,  is providing a 25-per-cent discount.

“Other than that, we’ve had great opportunities from the community itself,” said society spokesperson Lisa-Marie Vowk.

“Local businesses and individuals have come forward and offered financial support if needed,” she continued.

“We haven’t taken them up on it yet, but it’s good to see that it’s not just questions. We’re getting people that are saying, ‘we’re here for you,’ which is great.”

Mount Sima plans a membership general meeting sometime before spring break.

The meeting will discuss the future of Mount Sima and provide more information on the T-bar accident in which a 40-kilogram wheel fell, nearly missing skiers.

“We’re still looking at the cause of the incident that happened two weeks ago,” said Vowk.

“That will take time and we don’t want to go forward without all of the information because that will just lead to more questions.”
