A prisoner who escaped without shoes from the Whitehorse courthouse is back in police custody, after nearly a month on the run.

Richard Linklater was making a first appearance in court on Sept. 26 on charges including robbery and failing to comply with a probation order when he got away, through the front doors of the courthouse, on to Second Avenue.

RCMP officers and a police search dog were called in, but could not find him.

Police told the public the 33-year-old may pose a risk to safety and should not be approached.

On Wednesday at 9 p.m. Whitehorse RCMP got a tip that Linklater was inside a Whitehorse house. They went to the house and arrested him without incident, according to a police news release.
