An early morning fire on Sunday engulfed a construction trailer in the west end of the city killing a person who was inside.

Fire crews responded to the fire at 6:55 a.m. at Norcope Enterprise’s gravel pit on Copper Haul Road.

While dousing the blaze, firefighters discovered charred human remains. They phoned RCMP investigators to the scene three kilometres south of Fish Lake Road.

The body still hasn’t been identified and is with the Yukon coronor for investigation, said RCMP Sgt. Don Rogers.

However, it’s believed the person who died was living in the trailer and acting as a caretaker, he said.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Arson hasn’t been ruled out, said Rogers.

Calls to Norcope Enterprises regarding the fire were not returned before press time.
