The city will receive up to $25,000 from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to pay for cleanup of the Motorways properties.

City council voted unanimously to approve the grant, funded through the federal government’s Green Municipal Fund. EBA Engineering applied for the funding as part of its work to remove contaminated soil from the properties between First Avenue and Second Avenue and adjacent to Black Street and Keish Street.

The area is a parking lot now, but the city wants it developed for a mix of businesses and residences. All contaminated soil has already been removed. The city will be putting nine of the lots up for sale this spring.

The total budget for the cleanup is $200,000. It has cost $110,000 to date.
