Grande Mothers unfit for Canada

Friday March 5, 2010

By Ian Stewart

The Grande Mothers won’t be bringing the stinging satiric sounds of Frank Zappa’s music to the Yukon Arts Centre tonight.

Two of the band members were turned away at the Canadian border on Wednesday. The band, forced to return to Los Angeles, missed a show in Vancouver last night as well. The Yukon Arts Centre is working to sort out the maple-tinged red tape, and is confident the Grande Mothers will be rescheduled for fall.

“Zappa, who was the most vocal defender of freedom of expression in all its forms, must be rolling around in his grave,” said the art centre’s Didier Delahaye in an press release.
