Re Dead Dogs Raise Questions About Gun Laws (the News, June 24):

I can’t express how sickened and disgusted I was when I read this story. I would have been beside myself had something like this happened to my family pets. What kind of a miserable person would do such a thing?

Normally I am very proud to be a Yukoner, but it makes me very ashamed to know that I live in a place where shooting family pets, discharging weapons near people’s residences and other brutalities I have read about, are legal.

Why does the neighbour get to remain anonymous? The name of this “big brave man” who shot family pets should have been published for all to see.

This is one of the few times I wish I still lived in the city. Though animal cruelty laws in Canada are woefully inadequate, at least this person could be charged with a variety of weapons offences.

This isn’t the Wild West and it isn’t 1898!

Something has to change.
