On a summer night, watching a ball game is a Canadian tradition. But in Whitehorse, if you have a mobility issue, you need to watch ball on TV because the Pepsi Complex and Robert Service are no place for you.
Consider how challenging it is for a person with mobility limitations or in a wheelchair to manoeuvre thick gravel to get to the concession stand or the washroom? Minimum time is one inning (30 minutes) and a lot of sweat equity.
How can a public facility operate without consideration of the needs of those with mobility issues?
Where is the handicapped parking, reasonable access to the main building and the washroom?
I was watching a game the other day with a friend in a wheelchair and was disappointed that the Pepsi complex still does not have a paved path to the concession stand and washroom, an accessible outhouse by the entry gate or any designated handicapped parking.
Perhaps the Yukon government could donate an outhouse that is wheelchair accessible and place it by the bleachers.
With the increase in national and international tournaments I hope that the management of the Pepsi complex will make a few changes to accommodate and welcome spectators with mobility issues.
